PROJECT : Valentines Day Pillow.

The materials you will need to make this Valentines Day huggy heart pillow are some red material.. (The material can be cotton, felt, wool or just about any red material that you want to use.) Some red thread, needle and a scissors and some stuffing like polyester stuffing that you would use to stuff a pillow with. You can have buttons, glitter or lace if you choose to decorate your Valentines Day heart  pillow with. You can make your Valentines Day heart  pillow as personal as you want. If your valentine likes cars you can upt a picture of a car on the pillow or you can put whatever your valentine likes on the pillow.

Take your piece of material and with the scissors cut it into two heart shapes of the same size. It can be as large as you want or as small as you want as long as you can make a pillow out of it. Put the material so the right sides of the material are together and is facing each other and so the points of the heart are together. Then take the needle and red thread and sew along the edge of the material so the two pieces are connecting

together. Sew all along the edge of the material about a half inch in until you have it all sewn together with the exception of about 3 inches.

You should have two pieces of material sewn together along the edges except for the three inches. Push the heart shape through the three inch slot until the heart is
right side out.

Take the stuffing of your choice and push it into the three inch slot filling up the pillow shaped heart until it is stuffed as much as you would like it to be stuffed. Make sure it is even and smooth and not lumpy. If it is lumpy you can adjust the stuffing until it is smooth and uniform.

Now it is time to sew together the three inches of slot that you have left open. Fold the sides of the slot so that the two sides are a half inch inside the pillow like the rest of the seams are folded at this time. Then take a needle with red thread on it and sew the three inch slot together until the three inch slot is all sewn up.

Your should now have a  pillow in the shape of a HEART: some decorating on the pillow like take a magic marker and write on the pillow. . Decorate it with “I LOVE YOU” on one side and with the “I LOVE YOU” EXPRESSION in THE LANGUAGE OF YOUR CHOICE see the website : http://www.worldpath.net/~hiker/iloveyou.html.  Glitter can make the pillow interesting and you can get as creative as you want with the glitter. You can take some lace and sew it along the edges of the pillow or make a design on the pillow with the lace. You can get as elaborate and creative as you want with the Valentines Day huggy heart pillow.

You can give your Valentine the Valentines Day pillow and tell them that they can give it a hug when they miss you. By making a valentine instead of buying a valentine you are giving a piece of yourself to your sweetheart. You aren't just buying something that someone else has made you are giving your sweetheart something you have made all by yourself.

 HISTORY OF VALENTINE´S DAY

Every February we celebrate Valentine's Day by giving flowers, candy and cards to those we love. We do this in honor of Saint Valentine. You may be wondering, "Who is St. Valentine"?

Legend has it that Valentine was a priest who served during third century Rome. There was an Emperor at that time by the name of Claudius II. Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those that were married. With this thought in mind he outlawed marriage for young men in hopes of building a stronger military base. Supposedly, Valentine, decided this decree just wasn't fair and chose to marry young couples secretly. When Emperor Claudius II found out about Valentine's actions he had him put to death.

Another legend has it that Valentine was an imprisoned man who fell in love with his jailor's daughter. Before he was put to death he sent the first 'valentine' himself when he wrote her a letter and signed it 'Your Valentine', words still used on cards today.

Perhaps we'll never know the true identity and story behind the man named St. Valentine, but this much is for sure...February has been the month to celebrate love for a long time, dating clear back to the Middle Ages. In fact, Valentines ranks second only to Christmas in number of greeting cards sent.

Another valentine gentleman you may be wondering about is Cupid (Latin cupido, "desire"). In Roman mythology Cupid is the son of Venus, goddess of love. His counterpart in Greek mythology is Eros, god of love. Cupid is often said to be a mischievous boy who goes around wounding both gods and humans with his arrows, causing them to fall in love.
